We Have Each Other

Story of a teacher whose husband’s father is drunken and flirtatious and ended up broke. Her brother had hepatitis but he recovered and stayed longer for a certain time because of the merits. What Karma causes rheumatism sickness? Does it have any effect if one is upset while accruing merits? https://dmc.tv/a2210

CASE  STUDY
We Have Each Other

Dear Luang Phaw,

I am a school teacher and merit pursuer in Kalasin.  I had never known a correct method to perform merits until I met my close virtuous friend, who is my life partner.

When my husband was in the 9th Grade, he got appraisal prize from academic Dhamma Quiz.  When he was in the 11th Grade, he won the first prize of Korat.  Therefore, his teachers regularly brought him to Dhammakaya Temple for huge merit ceremonies.  After finishing the 12th Grade, he started his bachelor’s degree in education with “Education heir” scholarship. As there was no virtuous friend, this made him be away from the Temple.

After he graduated from his bachelor’s degree, he became a teacher for two years.  There was a virtuous friend persuading him to visit the Temple. He then returned to the temple again during “a miracle of a crystal sun” ceremony, which I also join my husband to cast two of our personal Buddha images as well as to continue to pursue perfection. Currently, my husband has a chance to accrue merit as a guest speaker for youth training centre at Korat and Surin.  We both took dhamma quiz contest in a field of academic profession last year.  He got the second prize and I got the third prize of Kalasin Province.
I am seeking for your mercy by telling my story in “Dream-In-Dream”.

My father used to be nominated as a chairman of district cultural parliament.  That was because he had good interpersonal relations, was well-spoken, smart and reliable for people.  My father was a merchant before, and sold his stuff when there was a festival within a temple.  He was also a festival-announcer. While handing goods to a customer, his hand accidentally pushed an oil lamp down causing fire all over his body. He could put out the fire; however, there was still a scar on his legs as a reminder.

My father was a short-tempered, irritable, annoying person.  He also periodically accrued his merit during traditional-merits occasion.  My father used to have rheumatism and had a surgery on both of his knees.  My father spent the rest of his life as a typical senior person and he passed away to a long sleep.  He never woke up since he was seventy-two years old.

My mother was a calm and diligent person.  She also worked hard for living.  She had been a hard worker on selling, plough and gardening even though my father passed away.  My mother is now 70 years old.  She however continues her hard work.  She is diligent and never stops.

My older brother was a Physics teacher at Anukulnari School, Kalasin Province.  He was a short-tempered and high-confident person.  He was a type of person who was not so convinced by others.  In March 2003, he suddenly got sick.  His eyes and body turned yellow.  The doctor informed that he had hepatitis.

He later was moved to Srinakarin Hospital, Khon Khen.  The doctor said the bile duct inside the liver was blocked. They brought him to Chulalongkorn Hospital, Bangkok.  The doctor needed to put in a tube in the liver to drain the bile out as the surgery was not possible.  In October 2003, the doctor informed that he reached the final stage of bile duct cancer.  He had to have radiation treatment to prolong his life.  However, he got worse and had hiccups all the time.

One time, he had a sleeping talk which was not hard to understand.  I could recognize some words – Go Go.  Looked like, he was trying to chase someone.  The doctor concluded that he would be dead.  Without hesitation, I approached to the Dhammakaya Temple to watch the Dream-in-Dream case study until the end of the program.  After that, I had a chance to meet Luang Phaw and offer requisites for him as I could not wait any longer.  That time, I also participated in dining hall building merits and put my brother’s name.

After I returned from the temple, his hiccup was gone and he recovered.  He could stay for another one week.  He was forty-seven years old.  My nephew was a cheerful person.  He hung out with friends having risks on drinking, smoking strategies.  I do not know whether he followed his friend as he did not do in front of me.

On Saturday, August 29th 2006, my nephew was fourteen years old.  He rode at the back of his friend’s motorcycle. His fried was drunk at the time and the motorcycle lost balance.  His friend was fine.  However, my nephew’s head hit with a concrete pipe on the side.  This caused his brain to get swollen and held up bleeds within a brain area.  While staying in ICU, I called the temple to cast him a golden Luang Pu image and turned on Dhamma tape for him at all times.  He finally passed away with peace.

Father of my husband liked to drink liquor, was a womanizer, and liked to gamble in chicken fighting game. He was a soldier-doctor. He had wife and children everywhere he worked. Later on he fought with his superior and resigned from the army. After that he was in love with mother of my husband, who was the last wife beside other girlfriends.

After marriage, my husband’s father bought a land to do agriculture and open clinic. This business was very good because there was only one clinic in that sub district. Because he was unfaithful and liked to gamble, this brought his business down.

He gradually sold all his lands and finally his house. Fortunately, he had money left and he used that money to buy a new land to build a new house and Clinic, located in the same village. His business went very well and he had a reputation more than before. He was selected to be sub district doctor, but he still behaved like before, which was being unfaithful and gambled.

He finally sold his second house, which was a concrete house and turned to a wood house. This time he was really run out of merit because he could not have his wealth back. He even took off hardwood floor and wood wall piece by piece as well as roof to sell. He currently lives in a hut covered with straw and walls made from bamboo, which used to be a chicken coop. His house is not different from a chicken coop.

At the end of year 2006, father of my husband turned 60 years old. He climbed to fix his roof and suddenly his mouth deviated, was full of saliva, and he could not move his body. My husband took him to have an x-ray at the hospital. A doctor said he had brain hemorrhage, which was very lucky because it was not a coma level. He did not need to have an operation, but he would be paralyzed temporarily. He currently is better, almost 100% recovered. I try to have him attain merit by himself.

Mother of my husband was stressful and worried very much about her husband’s behaviors. Since they opened the second clinic, they argued so many times because of unfaithful husband. My husband’s mother hated a womanizer very much.
When she was 32 years old, one day she was eating papaya salad, she became unconscious. She regained consciousness the next morning, but she could not speak for years because of hard tongue (from brain infarction).  She has been sick since then.

She sometimes fell down and faint for a day. When she recovered, she would shake and speak like spirit got in her many times a day. She used to be unconscious and stop breathing for one day and night.

Other people sometimes misunderstood that my husband’s mother was dead, and they prepared coffin and tied her hand but in the next morning she woke up. She was like this for 3 times.

The first time she was unconscious; she told that an officer took her away. When she found a big tree block in front of her, and the officer could go across but she could not. She felt tired and missed her family, and then she woke up. The second and third time she fainted, she said that someone brought her to see heaven and hell.

My husband brought his mother to perform merits at the Dhammakaya temple, and help work in Youth Education Centre at NaKorn Rajchasrima. She has a chance to meditate everyday, and this makes her feel better.

She starts to speak, but is not 100% clear. When she meditated, she said that she saw spheres and Buddha image rising up continuously. She was very happy. One time in her meditation, she saw Khun Yay Ubasika Chandra Khonnokyoong smiling and said that “Please be patient, this is your retribution.”

My husband’s childhood was in a time that his family was good financially; he had never known the word “hungry”. But after he was in primary school, his family’s financial status was getting down. Luckily, he could have scholarship of “education heir”, where after graduating he could turn to be a teacher without examination.

During the time in college, he had to work in a registration room and serve food in a cafeteria. He shared his scholarship with his parents and until now he still takes care of them.

I have a big responsibility taking care of my husband’s parents until now too. Even though we have lots of burden, we have never given up because we have each other.

Luang Phaw's Dream

I closed my eyes, dreamed and woke up with these answers.
When you tell anybody the story like a tale, it will make anyone know more about retribution (Law of Kamma)

1) Your father was burnt all over his body but he did not die, is because of his past kamma that he grilled live animals for food but he could recover because those animals were mostly small animals; i.e. shrimps, shellfishes, crabs, fishes and he had wholesomeness with Dhammakaya community help him.
  • Your father has rheumatism for long time because of his past kamma that he liked to beat animals and his retinues as a consequence from his hot temper.
  • He passed away while he was sleeping because his life span was over.

  • He had a no dull and no clear omen of suffering at the moment he died so he was born to be a good level of earth-sprite in an ogre line in an earth-sprite village as a result from his wholesomeness he had accrued in tradition and merits you have accrued to him as well as his hot temper.
  • He now understands about merits and sees consequences of his hot temper. He left a thank-you message to you and rejoiced merits you have dedicated to him.

2) Your mother worked hard all of her life although she is old now because she did not accrue much merits in the past life and she is used to working hard like this so she has to do. You should suggest her not to work too hard.

3) Your brother has a cancer in gall bladder because of his past kamma that he regularly ordered to slaughter animals for guests.

  • Before he passed away, he hiccupped because of his illness symptom and verbal kamma that he liked to temperedly scold people around him both in the past and at present.
  • Merits you accrued for him extended his life for another week so he stopped hiccup and died later.
  • Your brother talked in his sleep like he expelled someone because he saw purgatory hell officer came to collect him. It was his omen of suffering.

  • After he passed away, he becomes an ogre who is a district authority to collect dead people to purgatory hell. He can be an ogre because of wholesomeness from giving knowledge, accruing merits in tradition, being dedicated by you, and bad deeds often being angry and unforgiving others.
  • He left a thank-you message to you and rejoiced merits you have dedicated to him so that he does not have to receive more consequences from his retributions and has a chance to take a rest.

4) Your nephew passed away from accidents since he was young because of his past kamma. In his past life, he slaughtered animals for food and snacks eating with liquor. Once he got drunk, he fought with others in the same gang and killed one of them.

  • After he passed away, he was brought to purgatory hell level 5 as a result from his drinking kamma. He is being poured hot copper liquid into his mouth. He is considerably suffering. He had received merits you had dedicated to him so his punishment is lessened.
  • He is groaning for someone to help to escape from this retribution so you should accrue merits and dedicate merits to him often so his hard penalty is lessened and his light penalty is forgiven.
  • He did not possess the medium.

5) Your husband’s father was wealthy at the beginning but later his life permanently declined and he has to live in shanty which is not different from chicken coop because, in the past life, he did not regularly offer generosity, always regretted after donation, and also had trouble being a womanizer and gambler so his life got worse later.

  • He had brain hemorrhage and temporary paralysis because of his present kamma from chicken fighting game gambling, smashing fish’s head for food cooking.
  • He recovered because of merits he accrued in tradition at present reduced his retributions.

6) Your husband’s mother has seizure and hard tongue (from brain infarction) which made her unable to talk for many years because of her past kamma that she liked to beat animals and kill animals by smashing their heads for food as well as her verbal kamma from angrily shouting, cursing others and seniors.

  • She stopped breathing for long time like being dead because wholesomeness she had accrued in Buddhism mainly helped her although her life span was over.
  • When she stopped breathing, she saw an omen of suffering but there was no officer coming to collect her.

  • She saw a tree blocking her way but it was actually a dream from an omen of suffering. Her wholesomeness made her see the tree blocking and meet Dhammakaya community.
  • If her astral body left her body at that moment, she would become earth-sprite or wood nymph.

7) Your husband’s mother said she saw sphere, Dhammakaya image and Khun Yay Ubasika Chandra Khonnokyoong coming to visit. All of these are wholesome omens. Let her keep looking at sphere and Dhammakaya image. Her mind will be finer and finer.

8) Your husband was wealthy when he was in primary school and was getting worse since he was in secondary school because he irregularly accrued merits and often was happy before and after accruing but while accruing, he was fidgety so he did not fully receive the merits. Once merits slipped through, they made the beginning of his life good but his life in secondary school was not good because his stinginess kamma surfaced.

  • He has drunken and flirtatious father because of his past kamma. He used to buy liquor and give to others as a present but he did not drink himself and also often arranged women to entertain guests or treated them with liquor and women.

  • You and your husband had accrued merits together and used to be husband and wife in the past so you have met and lived together again.
  • It is not your retribution to take care of your husband’s family but it is your present merits from supporting relatives.
  • You should intend to accrue all merits and make a wish to succeed in life and business and soon you will be successful.

9) You and your husband pursued perfection with Dhammakaya community as a provider dependant on mood. Sometimes you did and sometimes you did not, or sometimes, you did with fullest efforts and the other times you did upon your capability.
  • In the last Buddha aeon, you and your husband had meditation progress that could see clear sphere and clear Dhammakaya image and survivingly went back to the fourth level of heaven (Tusita) as well as returned to pursue perfection 2 times.

  • Since we have met each other in this life, therefore you must try to pursue perfection in all merits with fullest efforts and make a wish to follow the Dhammakaya community to the fourth level of heaven (Tusita), in the special merit zone – bodhisattva as well as do not be apart from each other again.

Case study in real life

The Law of Kamma (Pali:Compared to "Karma" in Sanskrit) segment or "Case Study" is one of the prominent sections on the Dream in Dream kindergarten program, conducted by the Venerable Phrarajbhavanavisudh, also known as, Luang Phaw Dhammajayo of the Dhammakaya Temple in Pathum Thani Province, Thailand.

Each individualized "Case Study" is based on the timeless Law of Kamma (the Law of Cause and Effect) which examines the reasons for many situations and complex inter-relationships people find themselves in. Viewers from around the world write personal letters to Luang Phaw wanting to understand the karmic reasons for many special circumstances in their life.

This program is not intended to convert anyone to Buddhism or any other religions persuasion. Rather the goal is to help spread genuine peace, happiness and understanding here in Thailand and around the world. By first discovering and cultivating inner peace within ourselves through meditation, we can help spread love and kindness outward, helping to make our world a better place for everyone.
