The Truth of Life for Everyone in the World

Build the Temple to Be a True Temple

"Build the temple to be a true temple
Build monks to be true monks, build people to be good people"
Following the path of Dhamma toward the truth of life

For more than five decades, the firm aspiration of the founding community has shaped Wat Phra Dhammakaya into more than a religious place for ceremonies. It was intended to be a “school of morality” that creates peace for the world by building a temple that is clean, peaceful, shaded, and suitable for meditation practice; by training monks to be complete in discipline and conduct as teachers of morality; and by cultivating people to become good.

Looking back to Magha Puja Day in B.E. 2513, amid vast rice fields with no large trees or buildings, Luang Por Dhammajayo, who at that time had been ordained for only one rains retreat, together with Khun Yai Chand Khonnokyoong at the age of 61 and their disciples, joined together to dig the first clod of earth to establish the Buddhist Meditation Center, later known as Wat Phra Dhammakaya, on 196 rai of donated land, even though they had only 3,200 baht in funds at the time.

During the first phase of construction, the community faced severe hardship, including lack of funds and difficult living conditions. Yet those obstacles forged a way of working that emphasized utmost economy and greatest benefit. Every building, from the Catummaharajika Pavilion and the Dhammakaya Assembly Hall to the Maha Ratana Vihara Cloister, was built according to necessity to accommodate the waves of people who came to practice meditation, increasing from hundreds to millions, while holding to the principle “most economical, highest benefit, and permanently durable” so that this sacred place would become an enduring moral legacy.

From yesterday’s dry rice fields

today Wat Phra Dhammakaya has become a graceful Buddhist sanctuary and a spiritual center for seekers of Dhamma around the world. Every grain of soil, every structure, and every merit-making activity did not arise from one person alone, but from the sweat and faith of monks, novices, and lay devotees of every generation, all determined to carry on Dhammakaya knowledge and plant Dhamma in people’s hearts. It welcomes everyone to experience peace and learn the lessons of Dhammakaya knowledge together through the concept: “Build the temple to be a true temple, build monks to be true monks, and build people to be good people.”

Dhamma Legacy Toward World Peace

1Dhammakaya KnowledgeA Dhamma Legacy Toward World Peace
The beginning of searching for the truth of life and understanding oneself is the discovery of “Dhammakaya Knowledge,” the precious Dhamma legacy that Luang Pu Wat Paknam discovered by staking his life on the practice. It is a path of light and a way to inner happiness that everyone can attain.
3Great MastersThe Discoverer, the Preserver, the Successor
From the discovery of Dhammakaya Knowledge by Phra Mongkolthepmuni (Sodh Candasaro), Luang Pu Wat Paknam Bhasicharoen, it was preserved by Khun Yai Chand Khonnokyoong and continued and expanded to the world through Luang Por Dhammajayo.
196rai, the first land, becoming a field of faith
Khun Ying Prayad Phatthayaphongsavisutthathibodi offered 196 rai of land in Khlong Sam Subdistrict, Khlong Luang District, Pathum Thani Province. This was the first step that transformed empty rice fields into a sacred place for attaining Dhamma.
3,200baht, the first fundwith a firm aspiration to build good people
“If we were to build one person into a good person with morality, willing to dedicate their life to Buddhism, how much money would it take?” asked Khun Yai.
When a disciple questioned whether such a small amount of capital could build a temple, the same disciple replied, “Even spending 100 million baht might still not be enough to create even one such person.”
“Now I already have 11 good people like you sitting in front of me. That means I already have capital worth no less than
1,000 million baht. I will surely succeed in building it,” Khun Yai taught in reply to her disciples at that time.
20,000faithful hearts, toward a spiritual center for Buddhists worldwide
From the power of faith that brought people to meditate until the 196 rai area was filled in B.E. 2527, “20,000 people” became a turning point that led Wat Phra Dhammakaya to expand by more than 2,000 rai to accommodate the rapidly growing masses, later reaching hundreds of thousands. The land was not expanded merely to hold more people; it was built as a peaceful, shaded sacred place for practicing Dhamma together, a center that connects the hearts of Buddhists around the world as one.
300,000personal Dhammakaya Buddha imagesat the Maha Dhammakaya Cetiya
The Maha Dhammakaya Cetiya consists of three parts, symbolizing the Buddha Jewel, the Dhamma Jewel, and the Sangha Jewel.
The Buddha Jewel is the hemispherical dome and surrounding slopes of the Maha Dhammakaya Cetiya, where 300,000 personal Dhammakaya Buddha images are enshrined. They were created according to the 32 marks of the Great Man, cast in silicon bronze for exceptional durability and strength, and gilded with genuine gold. Inside the Maha Dhammakaya Cetiya
there are also 700,000 additional personal Dhammakaya Buddha images prepared for the future, so that if the exterior images become damaged, the inner images can be brought out to replace them, preserving the completeness of the Maha Dhammakaya Cetiya for thousands of years.
1,000,000square meters, one million still heartsfor world peace at the Maha Ratana Vihara Cloister
The Maha Ratana Vihara Cloister was designed with a total usable area, together with the Dhamma courtyard, of more than 1,000,000 square meters, ready to welcome over 1,000,000 devotees from around the world to gather as one for ceremonies on important
occasions. This place is therefore not merely a venue for rituals, but a place that continually cultivates and offers “good people” to society and the nation.

Be Still to Find the Answer

Be still to find the answer your whole life has been seeking
in the exhibition “The Truth of Life for Everyone in the World”
What is the true meaning of life?

A simple question that invites everyone passing by to pause and reflect, while the world moves rapidly forward and most people live like travelers in a hurry to pursue success, perhaps neglecting to stop and ask what they are truly seeking.

This question is like the starting point of an important journey that Wat Phra Dhammakaya has tried to pass on through time, from the day the empty rice fields of Khlong Sam were transformed into a sacred place through faith, led by Khun Yai Chand Khonnokyoong and Luang Por Dhammajayo in B.E. 2512, to build a temple as a school of morality and a spiritual center ready to welcome seekers of merit from every corner of the world to search together for the true meaning of life.

From this foundation of faith, prepare to encounter the coming journey to discover the truth of life at the southern side of the Maha Ratana Vihara Cloister, around cloister numbers 2 and 3. This area will be created as a contemporary center for learning Dhammakaya knowledge under the concept “Following the Path of Dhamma Toward the Discovery of the Truth of Life,” to cultivate right view in the hearts of people around the world and sustainably create good people for society. This place is therefore more than an exhibition. It is a journey back to inner peace, where you can discover for yourself the answer your heart has long been seeking.
