Conclusion: The Characteristics of a Virtuous One
compassion of the Lord Buddha that he deigned to teach Noble Discipline
It was due to the great compassion of the Lord Buddha that he deigned to teach Noble Discipline, not only for monks, but for householders too, in the form of Noble Self-Discipline for Householders [gihivinaya], as a guideline for achieving happiness in life and developing society. Thus the Target Character Traits for which society awaits are four (see table opposite): The relationship between these Four Target Character Trais whom society awaits can be summarized diagrammatically as shown in the diagram (ess page 64):

Having recognized the principle characteristics of the virtuous person for whom society awaits, in order to get the highest benefit from the teaching, it is necessary to:
1. Observe oneself to see if one’s own behaviour measures up to that of a 100% that of a 100% virtuous person. If one falls short of 100%, one should quickly make up for the remainder!
2. Share one’s knowledge of these four character traits and mechanism with one’s nearest and dearest-in fact with

as a guideline for achieving happiness
3. We should make shared investments only with others who measure up to these four character traits. Similarly, we should use these four character traits as the benchmark when taking on new employees, or helping others out financially;
4. We should use these criteria when problem-solving both in individual, collective, social and economic contexts.
