The Ceremony of Chanting the Lord Buddha’s Mantra at the House of Representatives on August 10th, 2012
 


On August 10th, 2012 at the Meeting Room, Floor 2, Capitol Building I, House of Representatives of Thailand, Mr. Somsak Kiatsuranont, Speaker of Parliament and the House, was the president of the Ceremony of Chanting the Lord Buddha’s Mantra from the project of “The Celebration of the 2,600th Anniversary of the Enlightenment of the Lord Buddha” since four auspicious events which were the 2,600th Anniversary of the Enlightenment of the Lord Buddha, H.M. King Bhumibol Adulyadej’s 85th Birth Anniversary, H.M. Queen Sirikit’s 80th Birth Anniversary, and H.R.H. the Crown Prince’s 60th Birth Anniversary.  The atmosphere was good and the room was full of MPs, parliamentary officials, and mass media.

The president lit joss sticks and candles to worship the Triple Gems and gave the opening speech.  Mr. Somsak said that the current problems of the country was Thai politicians did only for their personal interests so that the country did not move forward.  He wanted all Thai politicians apply Dhamma first for fighting their defilements and made Thailand more livable and the societies would be peaceful.  And when Thai people loved and were kind to one another, our societies would be more livable. And this activity would be arranged every year.

Mr. Somsak said, “Thai people are not happy with some events which were the political problems and I don’t want such events to be happened again. So, it is the time for us to turn to Dhamma.  Politics have to apply Dhamma first. This is for our country, especially for the current situations, we need to apply Dhamma to solve problems for Thai politics.”

The Most Ven. Somdejphramaharatchamangkalajarn, the abbot of Paknam Bhasicharoen Temple and the monastic president of this ceremony, gave the complimentary speech and gave the sermon in the topic of “Governing by Dhamma will make Thai people happy” for MPs and the participants. The main idea is the governors should love in three things which were love the gratefulness, goodness, and harmony.  The Most Venerable also commented that if which country was able to love and do in these things, that country would be peaceful.

Then, the Most Ven. Somdej and Deputy from the Sangha Supreme Council, the Ecclesiastical Regional – Provincial – District – Sub district Governors, the abbots, and the vice abbots, 449 total monks, chanted the Lord Buddha’s Mantra.
 
 The Most Ven. Somdejphramaharatchamangkalajarn gave the complimentary speech at the House of Representatives
