Established in the United States, in 1978 by David E. Carter, the Telly Awards were to set a new high standard of merit to honor excellence in local, regional and cable TV commercials. Non-broadcast video and TV program categories were soon added.
The Telly Award is one of the most sought-after awards by industry leaders, from large international firms to local production companies and ad agencies. Each year, over 13,000 international entries participate in the competition. The local production companies, in particular, have been trying to participate to be able to expose in world-class level.
Judges evaluate entries to recognize distinction in creative work — entries do not compete against each other. Instead, entries are judged against a high standard of merit as set by David E. Carter.
The standard has been raised every year by top experts from media and ad agencies and all previous winners become judges.
