The final day of the Buddhist Lent

The final day of the Buddhist Lent is the 15th full moon day of the 11th Lunar month

The final day of the Buddhist Lent is the 15th full moon day of the 11th Lunar month.  It is one of the most important days for monks because it is the final day of staying in the only temple for 3 months.  There is a record in the Pali Cannon that the Lord Buddha went to give a sermon to His mother in the Tavatimsa Heaven.

The final day of the Buddhist Lent means the last day for monks to stay in the only temple for 3 months or during the rainy season.  This is one of the monastic disciplines that when monks made a wish of the Buddhist Lent, they have to stay in the only temple since the 1st waning moon day of the 8th Lunar month to the 15th waxing moon day of the 11th Lunar month.  After that they can go to stay in anywhere.

The final day of the Buddhist Lent is also called “the Day of Inviting to criticize” that is the day of monks to invite one another to criticize or warn them about their wrongdoing if the warners saw, heard, or suspected.

The importance of the final day of the Buddhist Lent
The final day of the Buddhist Lent is important because
1.    Monks have got the permission of the Lord Buddha to stay in the other places after this day
2.    Monks will use Dhamma and experience they got during the Buddhist Lent to teach people
3.    Monks will invite one another to warn them about their behavior for pureness, respect and harmony in the monastic community.
4.    Buddhists will imitate this way – to invite others to warn them for developing themselves and societies
