When the sun set and the moon rose, the impressive night that all attendants were waiting for arrived, the Lighting Ceremony of Floating Lantern began.  Yipeng is one of the great customs in Lanna.  It is arranged at the full moon night of the 2nd Lunar Month of Northern Thailand or the 12th Lunar Month of Central Thailand.  In addition to floating krathongs on the river, floating the lanterns in the sky is another Lanna customs.  They believe that the brightness from the lanterns at this night is to worship the Lord Buddha’s relics established in the heaven.

A lot of laypeople attended the Yipeng festival
