British Chemist Finds Inner Peace at Wat Phra Dhammakaya: Inspired by Luang Pu, Joe Embarks on a Spiritual Journey

Recently, the International Reception Team had the pleasure of welcoming Mr. Joe de Viggiani, a British national who holds a Master’s degree in Chemistry from the United Kingdom. He once interned at Chulalongkorn University and is currently traveling around Asia for five months before returning home. During his spiritual retreat at Pa Pae Meditation Centre, he learned about Wat Phra Dhammakaya and was deeply inspired by Luang Pu to visit the temple.

During his visit, Joe studied the lives of the Great Masters of the temple and was moved by their noble determination to help humanity discover true inner peace. Having some background knowledge of Buddhism — including the Five Precepts and the Noble Eightfold Path — Joe felt a strong connection with the teachings.

Before the tour began, he practiced meditation and described feeling deeply relaxed. He shared that his previous meditation experiences at Pa Pae Meditation Centre brought him great joy and that he intends to continue meditating for the rest of his life.

His visit included every step of the International Program: meditation, food offering, exhibition viewing, and exploring every major part of the temple. At the Great Dhammakaya Cetiya, Joe said he felt a strong sense of reverence and serenity — “I’ve never seen a place this clean, peaceful, and orderly.” He made a heartfelt resolution and respectfully offered a lotus flower in homage.

Joe expressed a sincere wish for young people in the UK to have the chance to attend moral training programs at Wat Phra Dhammakaya. He believes such programs can help shape them into kind and virtuous adults who contribute positively to society. He even said that, if given the chance, he would love to return and ordain in a short-term monastic program.
