In the early morning of September 10st, 2000, the Master Nun Chand Khonnokyoong passed away from the world victoriously. She always practiced herself everyday of her life, 92 years, and left her valuable teaching words as the Buddhist legacy. Her words guide the practitioners not go to hell, but go to heaven or other fortunate realms. Her words also show the way to reach Nirvana and bring the true happiness to the practitioners and people in the world both in this lifetime and next lifetimes.
After she passed away, the Most Ven. Phrathepyanmahamuni (Dhammajayo Bhikkhu) invited the monks to chant Abhidhamma for 500 days consecutively at the Bankaewruanthong where is now the place of the Inner Dream Kindergarten Program. It is located in the North zone of the International Dhammakaya Meditation Hall. The Most Ven. decided to cremate her body on February 3rd, 2001 which was the death anniversary of the Great Master Phramongkolthepmuni (Sodh Candasaro) and the Master Nun Thongsook Samdaengpan. So the Most Ven. has assigned this date to be the Great Masters Day of the temple.

For this ceremony, the Most Ven. arranged the ceremony extremely big to worship the Master Nun’s kindness because she taught Vijja Dhammakaya to him. The Most Ven. had signed his signature on all of the invitation letters before sent to invite monks around Thailand, over 30,000 temples, to participate in this ceremony. There were over 200,000 disciples join in the ceremony as well.

After the cremation, the Master Nun’s bones have changed to be jewel and gold ashes. Now her ashes are in the precious urn enshrining at Bankaewruanthong or the Inner Dream Kindergarten.

“The Master Nun was like the light shining to guide the right way to live for all disciples. She is the good model of the perfection pursuer. She taught us to know the right and best way to pursue perfection, the truth of life and the Law of Kamma. She taught these things clearly enough for us to understand and live safely in this world.

Everyone was reborn in the world to learn how to reach Nirvana, make merit and pursue perfections. But the Master Nun did more than that. She intended to remove the source of defilements, defeat Mara and take the beings to the Utmost Dhamma. Her behaviors in perfection pursuit were limitless and timeless. That meant she did not care how often she will be reborn to pursue perfections, the most important thing for her was she must reach the Utmost Dhamma.” (Summary from the Most Ven. Phrathepyanmahamuni’s sermon on Thursday February 3rd, 2005)
We can say that today Dhammakaya Temple is the biggest temple in Thailand and there are people come to meditate here most of the world. And the Master Nun Chand Khonnokyoong was the wire-puller of all successful things of the temple so all of us should remind that:
“If we didn’t have the Master Nun, we would not have Luang Phaw and Dhammakaya Temple.”
The Chanting for Praising the Master Nun Chand Khonnokyoong
The Master Nun is the founder of Dhammakaya Temple and we are her disciples who should come together to keep her determination by participating in a part of all success of Dhammakaya Temple. We should spread Vijja Dhammakaya and Dhamma of the Lord Buddha to the world.
