Low–interest Loan

 

Questions from the audience:

My mother and I are the loaners. We think that we will get merit from this occupation because our interest is less than other loaners.  After we studied Dhamma via DMC, we fear to have any retribution, so we would like to stop doing this business and do not know which occupation is better for us.  How will we get any retribution?

Answer:

 

    You have to understand first that many case studies you have seen are the cases of the very high interest loaners.  So they got the retributions such as someone was sick because of the kidney disease, he had to purify blood because in the previous lifetime he was the loaner and his interest is very high.  The borrowers troubled more and more because of his interest and he seized some borrowers’ properties as well.
    But if your interest is not very high, may be a little higher than the bank rate since your risk is higher than the bank.  In addition, you really want to help the poor and the loaner and borrower do not trouble.  It is win–win.  In this case it is okay.  It just counts to be a kind of businesses.  Don’t worry too much until you don’t do anything.
