Mobile VersionExplanation about the Pali Cannon (Tipitaka) Project
Due to Phra Anilman Dhammasakiyo’s information in the press conference that Dhammakaya Temple has invited the Pali experts from many countries to inspect the Pali Cannon (Tipitaka) in order to change Dhamma, Three Universal Characteristics, from “impermanent, suffering, non–self ” to “impermanent, suffering, self”. Dhammakaya Temple would like to explain as the followings:
1. No one in the world can change the Lord Buddha’s teaching about the Three Universal Characteristics in the Pali Cannon because all editions of the Pali Cannon have specified obviously that if someone modifies this Dhamma, it will be conflict with all evidences in all editions of Pali Cannon. It is impossible to be accepted in public and the doers’ reputation will be spoiled as well. It will not benefit at all.
2. The Pali Cannon (Tipitaka) Project operating by Dhammakaya Temple has the main objectives to preserve the ancient palm leaf manuscripts carrying Buddhist scriptures from many customs which are Thai, Lanna, Sri Lanka, Burmese, Cambodian, etc. When the time passes by, these manuscripts will be decayed or eaten by termites unfavorably. So the temple is taking the digital photos of these manuscripts and kept them in databases in the computer. This will provide the Buddhist academics from over the world to search and study further. The temple also asks the academics worldwide to examine these digital photos for the completely computerized Pali Cannon in which everyone can easily search to see the photos of original manuscripts from all customs. This is the big project which is depending to the cooperation of the academics worldwide and will spent tens year to complete it. However, it will benefit in the Buddhist studying further very much.
Now, Thai societies have a lot of political conflicts, so the temple would like to ask all sections and parties not let the misunderstanding or unawareness leading to be the additional conflict in Buddhist area.
