The practice most excellent is patience enduring, Nibbāṇa most excellent proclaimed by the Buddhas, But he is not forthgoing who hurteh another, And neither a samaṇa harring others. Every evil never doing, And in skilfulness increasing, And one’s heart well-purifying: This is the Buddhas’ Śāsana. Not insulting, neither harming, In Pāṭimokkha well-restrained, Knowing moderation in one’s food, Far away one’s sleeping-sitting place, This is the Buddhas’ Śāsana. Verses for Recollection at the moment of using (the requisites) Taṅkhanīkakapaccavekkhaṇāpaṭha (Handa mayam taṅkhanīkakapaccavekkhaṇāpaṭhaṁ bhāṇāṁ se) Paṭisaṅkhā yoniso cīvaram paṭisevāmi, Yāvadava sīṭassa paṭighātāya unhassa paṭighātāya, Dāṁsamakasavatātapasirimspasamphassānam paṭighātāya, Yāvadava hirkopinapaṭičaḍanattam Paṭisaṅkhā yoniso piṇḍapaṭam paṭisevāmi, Neva davāya na madāya na maṇḍanāya na vibhūsānāya, Yāvadava imassa kāyassa ṭhitiyā yāpaṇāya vihimsuparatiyā brahmacariyānuuggahāya, Iti purāṇaṁa vedaṇaṁ paṭihaṅkāhmi navañca vedaṇaṁ na upādessāmi, Yātrā ca me bhavissati anavajjatā ca phāsuviharo cāti.
