Research indicates that Dham Lao is influenced by Dham Lanna, which derives from Mon writing. The historical chronicles reveal that King Tilokaraja organized a significant Buddhist Council in 1477 CE, regarded as the eighth by the Lanna people. At King Pothisarat's request, sixty bundles of Tipitaka manuscripts were sent to Luang Prabang in 1523 CE. This highlights the cultural exchanges in script and literature during these historical periods. The manuscripts from the Nong Pa Fa Cave may also have originated from Chiang Mai's Tipitaka.
