This June, The United Nations is holding a Spe- cial Session of the General Assembly in Geneva to evaluate progress and to decide on new initiatives to make our common cause of human well-being a reality. Concur- rent with the diplomatic negotiations, we are organizing three high level Panels to allow a diversity of voices to bring different visions of social development to the de- bate. Given the recent financial and trade crisis and in response to the uneven distribution of globalization's ben- efits, we wish to recapture a sense of collective respon- sibility towards the poor and the marginalized. If we do not continue to address and solve our common problems, we risk reaching that tipping point when the results of deprivation and exclusion erupt in our nations and cross borders in potentially epidemic proportions. Within an overall framework of poverty eradica- tion, the three Panels will focus on: 1. Enabling Envi- ronment and Resources for Social Development; 2. Promotion of Full Employment; and 3. Social Integra- tion with the sub-theme, Basic Social Services for All. We would be honoured if you would share your considerable experience and invaluable insight with the international community on the Panel: Enabling Environ- ment and Resources. This will be the first of the half-day panels. It will take place on Wednesday, 28 June from 3.00 to 6.00 p.m. Each high level Panel will consist of six panelists and a chairperson. Our concept of high level refers not only to the head of state and government who will be joining us. It refers more generally to the high level of consistant commitment that all our panelists have demonstrated to pursuing equitable social progress, and to the inspiration that example has provided to oth- ers. We are inviting you therefore in your personal capacity as a spiritual leader, whose words and deeds educate and motivate.
