John : Last time you said if we understood the concept of the Five Aggregates well, we would understand the third form of Dukkha or suffering. Sam : OK, so, the Five Aggregates it is. Do you remember the third form of Dukkha? John : I think so, it's Dukkha as suffering created by conditioned states. It has something to do with attachment and the Five Aggregates. Sam : That's right, now let's discuss the Five Aggregates. In Buddhism, a being' or 'I' is a combination of ever - changing psychophysical constituents or aggregates which are: 1) form, 2) feelings, 3) perceptions, 4) mental formations, 5) consciousness. John : Could you say, the Five Aggregates are the conditioned elements of existence creating a 'being' or '1'?" Sam : Yes, that's a good definition. These forms of attachments are known as the Aggregates of Clinging. John : And attachment means suffering. Sam : Right, attachment means suffering, Let's talk about the first aggregate--the Aggregate of Form. It is our physical form which consists of the Four Great Elements : earth, water, fire or heat, and wind. Our physical form has five inner sense spheres made up of eyes, ears, nose, tongue and body surface. And five outer sense spheres comprised of sight, sound, smell, taste and touch. John : Are you saying that our senses get attached to the things we see, smell, and taste? I know about that one, sometimes, I get a taste for ice cream and I'll think about it for a long time until I satisfy that craving and have a big dish of ice cream! Sam : A delicious example, these faculties are stimulated by objects in the external world. John : Sure, the eyes correspond with visible objects,
