สนทนาธรรมยามว่าง โดย ดวงธรรม Ten Criteria for Religions Beliefs เกณฑ์ ๑๐ ข้อสำหรับพิจารณานับถือศาสนา Rob: Tom, the other day you talked about the Kalamas. Who are they? Tom : Are you interested in them? I think they were wise men. The commentary speaks of them as belonging to the warrior caste forming their clan in Kesaputta district, They were among intelligent men-the Brahmins. In India at that time there were a lot of doctrines and religions. Rob : Even nowadays we may find a variety of religions in India. Tom : That's right. In those days each religious teacher tried to promote his own doctrines, while abusing and deprecating the doctrines of others. Rob : What about the Buddha? Tom : He was different from the other teachers. What the Buddha illumined was the nature of reality, or the Dhamma, not a view of it. He never destroyed others. But He frequently made criticisms because He saw something unwholesome in those teachings leading those who practice them to suffering here, and to birth in states of woeful existence hereafter. Rob : What did the Kalamas view the Buddha's Teachings? Tom : Well, having heard about the reputation of the ร็อบ : ทอม เมื่อวันก่อนคุณพูดถึงชาวกาลามะ พวกเขาเป็นใครกัน ทอม : คุณสนใจหรือครับ : ผมคิดว่าพวกเขาเป็นคนฉลาดนะ มีคำอธิบายในอรรถกถา ว่าชาวกาลามะ เป็นเชื้อสายนักรบที่ไปตั้งรกรากอยู่ที่ เกสปุตตนิคม ชนชาวกาลามะย่อมเสวนากับนักปราชญ์ คือพวกพราหมณ์ ทั้งหลาย อินเดียในสมัยนั้นมีลัทธิคำสอนและศาสนาต่างๆ มากมาย ร็อบ : ถึงทุกวันนี้ก็เถอะ เราจะได้พบศาสนาต่างๆ มากมายใน อินเดีย ทอม : ใช่ครับ ในสมัยโบราณศาสดาเจ้าลัทธิแต่ละคนต่างก็ พยายามยกย่องโฆษณาลัทธิของตนให้เด่นดังขึ้น พร้อม กับเหยียบย่ำโจมตีลัทธิอื่นๆ ร็อบ : พระสัมมาสัมพุทธเจ้าล่ะครับ ทรงทำอย่างไร ทอม : พระพุทธองค์ทรงแตกต่างจากศาสดาอื่นๆ พระพุทธองค์ตรัสแสดงแต่สัจธรรมหรือที่เรียกว่า ธรรมะ ไม่ทรงแสดงเรื่องที่เป็นความคิดเห็น พระพุทธองค์ไม่เคยทรงว่าร้ายทำลายศาสดาอื่นๆ แต่ทรง วิพากษ์วิจารณ์ คำสอนที่ทรงเห็นว่าจะนำความระทมทุกข์ มาสู่ผู้ปฏิบัติในปัจจุบันชาติและจะนำไปสู่ทุคติในสัมปราย ภพ ร็อบ : ชาวกาลามะ มีทรรศนะอย่างไรต่อคำสอนของพระพุทธ องค์ ทอม : เมื่อได้ทราบข่าวว่า พระสัมมาสัมพุทธเจ้า เสด็จไป กัลยาณมิตร ๑๑๖ มีนาคม ๒๕๕๒
