pinong, Supanburi provance, Thailand, Sodh Mikaewnoi, was just another bundle of helpless humanity issuing into the world.¹ His birth differed from that of other children in only one way - at his birth, Sodh Mikaewnoi did not cry. Not even a whimper was to pass his lips, because he had been born to dry the tears of humanity. The family house was in the north of the Songpinong commune. The house was located on a curious piece of land, the shape of a lotus leaf, surrounded by water on all sides. There had never been any outbreak of fire on this curious islet. The house was positioned to the south of the Songpinong temple on the opposite side of the canal. The temple was to the northeast of the commune, the house to the southwest. His father was called Ngeun and his mother Sutjai. His family was renowned in the area served by Songpinong Canal because of rice trading in the district. The family had two river barges and several crew members. They shipped rice between Songpinong and the Bangkok mills or Nakorn Chaisri two or three times a month. The Mikaewnosi' reputation was paramount for their success in business. The rice dealer in Songpinong would trust the Mikaewnois with the rice on credit, content to wait for the payment when they returned. Sodh Mikaewnoi was the second born of five brothers and sisters with an older sister Dha, and three younger brothers, Sai, Phook and Samruam in order of birth. Dha recalled from early childhood that Sodh Mikaew- noi was a smart child. When Luang Phaw Wat Paknam was still an infant, he was always highly alert and com- prehending of his surroundings. 1.
