In Buddhist tradition such a meeting called by the abbot of a temple must be attended by every monk, novice, nun and layperson in the temple without exception. Walking out of the meeting was seen as the height of bad manners. They were misunderstood as having trampled their respect for Luang Phaw, their teacher, and they could not be forgiven. Luang Phaw was in a terrible dilemma. He knew he was helpless if a similar situation arose again. Luang Phaw said: "I cannot let this incident pass by, or else they will continue to trample on respect for everything else in the Buddhist religion . . . they have to know how to conduct themselves in (this) land of monasticism.
