If Luang Phaw saw light coming from a room accompanied by the sound of conversation, he would knock on the door and warn the monk to turn off his light. Everyone knew that Luang Phaw was meticulous about the saving of electricity and water in the temple — both were to be used only in case of need. He would turn off the master switch during daylight hours so that no-one wasted electricity unnecessarily. One night, Luang Phaw passed a room where two monks stayed. He saw light under the door and heard conversation. Outside the room all was quiet. There was no one else around. Luang Phaw knocked gently on the door with the intention to tell the monks to turn the light out. At the sound of the knocking, the sound of conversation suddenly went quiet. Instead of the door being opened, the scared shout came from inside the room, "Go away! I'll transfer merit for you tomorrow." Luang Phaw said nothing and went on his way. The next morning after chanting, Luang Phaw gave his usual sermon. Normally, if he had found anything the night before, he would announce it in front of the assembly. Anyone who had broken the Vinaya or any temple regulations, would be in a cold sweat at this time. Luang Phaw had a way of letting guilty members of the congregation know that their behaviour had been unmasked. He would make sure that everyone realized that they could not keep their behaviour secret from him. That morning
