the monk's name 'Candasar Bhikkhu'. The name 'Candasar' was in the traditional Pali language and meant "the one with a bright radiance like the moon". As the ordination ceremony approached, someone was sent to invite Phra Acharn 'Dee' of Wat Pratusarn, Suphanburi to be Candasar's Preceptor. Phra Kru Vinyananuoy (Nieng Indajoto) was kammaṭāccāçāriya and Phra Acharn 'Nong' Indasuvanno was anusāvanāçāriya. Both the kammaṭāccāçāriya and anusāvanāçāriya were resident at Wat Songpinong. Candasar Bhikkhu began his studies the day after his ordination. He began to study the Pali scriptures. He memorized the chanting and the Patimokkha. Unlike many monks, he studied both meditation and scripture in earnest. Phra Acharn 'Nong' was his first teacher. During his first rains-retreat (vassa) at the temple, he learned the Pali scriptures by heart up to 'avijjāpaccaya'. He became curious about the meaning of this word. He asked a fellow monk who had been ordained for three vassas for the translation, but received the answer: "Brother, we don't translate the Scriptures here, we just recite them — if you want to know more you will have to study in Bangkok..." He returned to his room perplexed by the bhikkhus' lack of textual scholarship. After only seven months' ordination, Candasar's heart was already set on furthering his studies in the capital.
