Bangkok, Thailand. Group Discussion on _ The Role of Academecians and Professional In the Promotion of World peace Medical profession has important contribution in the promotion of world peace. We deal directly with human beings in suffering and ailment either physically or mentally or both. As the body and the mind are so closely related that disturbance of one will effect the other. Let us have a look on how health problems are globally coped with. 1. The World Health Organization had declared the International policies of "Health for all by the year 2,000* 2. The global strategies for Health for All is 'Primary Health Care. 3. The principal plan of action is "Community Participation" 4. Health education is rearranged for community's and individual's health competency with self Independency. The same plan can be applied to "World Peace":- 1. The international policies should be "Peace for AM" 2. The Global strategles:- "From Inner Peace to Global Peace" 3. Plan of Action: Professional education should be rearranged. An interrelated and Interdependent curriculum of professional and peace education bas to be set up. Peace education should not be another seperate specialty. This new curriculum should include the way of practice, that one's mind can develop to gain peace, freedom and happiness. A key to attain this goal is "Meditation". This is a mean to inner higher self education, which the modern scientific way of western education cannot offer. Through meditation your will power can be developed in a way leading to wisdom and insight. Serenity, peaceful happiness and freedom of the mind can be achieved by liberation from defilement. egoism. passion, greed, craving and compounding. Meditation Is one of the core curriculum of Buddhist training and practice. However, It is not limitted to Buddhist only. but it is suitable for every body. It is not a kind of ascetism or miserable practice, but a good method to relax oneself physically and mentally. World peace can be built upon a wholesome world population, who are physically and mentally healthy, are able to lead a socioeconomic productive life with the loving kindness and peace in their heart, that create good will, mutual respect and kind peaceful happy human relationships af all levels, from the family to the community, society. nationally and internationally world wide. Never before in the history of man kind, the world is threatened by the violence of nuclear war, etc. We come here to learn from each other and to find a common stand point to achieve the common goal "World Peace'. It is the duty for every profession, religion or lay alike to work together hand in hand, heart to heart with mutual understanding and full devotion to create peace. Let us start with the willingness to cultivate loving kindness and PEACE IN OUR HEART TO PEACE OF THE WORLD.
