VISITORS FROM SINGAPORE CELEBRATED
NEW YEAR 1989 AT WAT PRA DHAMMAKĀYA
Meditation is Superior
to Medication
Ms. Tan started to practise me-
ditation by attending yoga lessons at
Quinine's Yoga Centre in April 1988.
She has meditated for just an hour on
Friday at the centre and every day at
home. So far she has found that she
has become more relaxed and free
from worries. Above all, it has effec-
tively cured her sickness. She con-
firmed,
"I used to have a migraine and
had to take medicine for many years
but now I don't have to...not even
one pill....Very lucky!....er....after
the first few months of meditation 1
sometimes took one pill, but now 1
take no pills at all. Even now in Singa-
pore when it it's very hot, I don't
require medication at all. I don't need
the pills prescribed for migraine at all,"
she asserted happily.
One day she came across her
doctor and he asked why she didn't
go to see him. She immediately replied,
"Oh! I don't need your pills any
longer, meditation is much better than
your medication!"
Looking Forward to
Coming Back Soon
Ms. Tan felt so impressed by
กุมภาพันธ์ ๒๔๗๒
her eight-day stay at Wat Phra Dham-
makaya that the pleasure showing in
her eyes when she continued,
"I find it a very great honour to
come to this temple. I'm really very
happy to be here. The first thing I'd
like to say is the people are very nice.
I enjoy Luang Phi Metta's lectures
very much. The lay people are very
nice and friendly, especially, Phet
(Ms. Amara; the āsā kalyāṇamitra
who is in charge of overseas guests).
She is very helpful. I think the temple
is very clean, well-organized and well-
developed. The surroundings are beauti-
ful and airy.
Besides, the food is no problem,
observing the eight precepts is no
problem. I love this temple very much.
Really, I hope to come back again to
join Maghapūjā Day."
The Temple Leading the
Youth to Dhamma
―
Ms. Lily Lee, a delightful middle-
aged lady, was another of the visitors
from Singapore. Although she prefers
to be a free thinker not belonging
to any faith, she has meditated, off
and on, for about fifteen years. Now
she has been enjoying practising
Dhammakāya technique.
The first day she arrived at Wat
Phra Dhammakāya, she was very
surprised to find lots of young people
coming to work for the temple, and
to stay in the temple. Why don't they
enjoy Worldly lives? A few days later,
she understood, and explained,
"On the sixth day, we went out
shopping in Bangkok... aiya!... It's
so crowded!... the traffic's so heavy.
I didn't see any places as serene as
Wat Phra Dhammakāya. So I said to
my friends... you know... I said it's
no wonder Phet or other young people
have come to stay here and intend to
work for the temple all their lives!"
Dhamma Brings
Happiness
No one feels happy whenever
one has to relate to, or talk and hear
about wickedness. Even the Emperor
who has completely conquered all of
his apparent enemies can never be
free from anxieties. On the contrary,
one will be really happy and peaceful
whenever one is concerned with Virtue.
Even though, if one recallects one's
previous loving-kindness, compassion,
and generousity one will maintain
one's happiness. Consequently, it is
not surpvising when Ms. Lee said,
"I have found it very relaxing,
calm and peaceful during my eight
days at Wat Phra Dhammakaya. Each
day I chant, meditate, attend lectures
