Although there were Forty Types
of Meditation identified by Buddhagho-
sa in the Ancient Buddhist Medita-
tion manual "the Path of Purity," Ven.
Mongala Devamuni (Late Abbot of
Wat Paknam Bhasi Chareon) said
that there are really only two systems
of Meditation; one type keeps our
mind inside the body, and the other
is to keep it outside. Dhammakāya
technique is one method of keeping
the mind inside the body, and has
been widely accepted as the most
straightforward of these meditation
techniques.
In Singapore there are already
some meditation teachers, but Ms.
Bee Gawh never joined them for fear
that there would be some side effects.
She
explained;
"Since I came to meditate at
Wat Phra Dhammakaya I think that
meditation is easy to learn and has
no side effects. So I continue learn-
ing it.
At the beginning I couldn't vi-
sualize a crystal ball, maybe because
of my improper sitting posture. On
the second day I still couldn't sit pro-
perly. Then on the third day I could
sit cross-legged comfortably. Then I
could see the black ball slowly
changed into a crystal ball; clear and
shiny.
The first time I saw the crystal
ball I felt very happy, really. I have
never been happy like this before! I
was very surprised by this pheno-
mena, but I'm sure now that it's real,
it's natural, because it makes me
very happy. So I think that Dhamma-
kaya technique is a very good way
for us to practise. Everybody can do
it; even those who have no Dhamma
basis background can learn to visualize
a crystal ball."
Once having spent a few
days re-adjusting to the
Thai climate and language
and lifestyle, they found
that Wat Phra Dhammakaya
was the "Haven of Peace
and Tranquility" for which
they had been seeking
Meditation Brings Relaxation
Mr.
r. Seow Ho Peng is a 32 year
old Electrical Technician. He said
that Singapore is a busy country. He,
himself, has to get up early each
morning to go to work. It is late in
the evening before he can return
home. Hard work often causes him
to become tense. So he would like to
find a good way to relax himself.
And now he has realised that Dham-
makāya meditation is the best way
to relax both his mind and his body.
Mr. Kho Yoke Beng is a Sales
Executive of 34 years old. He was
introduced to Wat Phra Dhammakaya
because he is the best friend of Mr.
Ho Peng. He said that it has been
very worthwhile going to the Wat.
During just one-week staying there,
he has gained some very impressive
experiences; especially the medita-
tion experiences, that would con-
tinue to impress him forever.
"In Singapore I used to practise
another technique. But I did not
practise continually; just off and on.
So I found nothing. But when I came
to practise meditation at Wat Phra
Dhammakaya I could visualize a
crystal ball. It was bright and clear.
And there was a very bright star in
the crystal ball. A night later I could
see the crystal ball become bigger
and brighter like the sunshine. But I
could maintain it for a while. I felt
better, calm and peaceful. Now, I
feel happy and have peace of mind.
So I will go on practising meditation
when I return to Singapore because I,
myself, have already got such a good
result."
Very Impressive Temple
B
efore going to Wat Phra
Dhammakāya, Ms. Bee Lian was
puzzled why she had been specifically
recommended to go to this Temple,
despite there being potentially thou-
sands of respectable temples in Thai-
land. During her one-week stay at
the temple her puzzlement disappeared
because;
"Everybody in the Temple is very
kind, very helpful, very friendly;
especially the Abbot. On the second
day we met the Abbot while he was
receiving visitors in the afternoon.
Even though he didn't speak English,
we all knew well that he is very kind.
We were all very happy when we
saw him."
Mr. Ho Peng asserted with
some Chinese words,
"I think the Abbot is "Sue Seang"
meaning "more than very kind",
