A FOREIGNER'S IMPRESSION OF BUDDHISM IN THAILAND one year and a half. Since the end of last December, the Hysons have moved back to the U.S.A. Although Lisa and Brandi look like 'farang', their names are American. Lisa was baptized, when she was young, in a Catholic church, They speak English as it is their mother tongue, but they hardly understand the Thai language. The two girls are proud to say, "We are Buddhists.” WHY DO THE HYSONS CHOOSE WAT PHRA DHAMMAKĀYA? Due to her fervent faith in Buddhism and her devoted attention to meditation, Mrs. Hyson convinced her daughters of the benefits of meditation. And when they came to Thailand in 1986, they went around many Thai Buddhist temples looking for some teachers to teach meditation in English but were unsuccessful. In 1987, they went to the World Fellowship of Buddhists Organization which is located on Sukhumvit Road. It is a place where meditation is taught by Buddhist monks who are Americans or Europeans. There, the Hysons met a Thai lady who kindly introduced them to practise meditation at Wat Phra Dhammakāya. เหตุใดจึงเลือกมา วัดพระธรรมกาย โดยเหตุที่มีศรัทธาในพระพุทธศาสนาและการฝึกสมาธิอยู่ แล้ว ครั้นเมื่อกลับมาอยู่ในประเทศไทยในปี ๒๕๒๙ คุณแนนซี่ ได้พยายามไปตามวัดต่าง ๆ เพื่อแสวงหาพระอาจารย์สอนสมาธิ เป็นภาษาอังกฤษแต่ก็ไม่ประสบผลสำเร็จ ครั้นในปี พ.ศ. ๒๕๓๐ เธอได้ไปที่องค์การพุทธศาสนิกสัมพันธ์ แห่งโลก (ตั้งอยู่ที่ถนนสุขุมวิท เขตพระโขนง) ซึ่งเป็นสถานสอนการ ฝึกสมาธิ โดยพระภิกษุชาวฝรั่ง ณ ที่นี่เอง คุณแนนซี่ได้มีโอกาสพบ กับกัลยาณมิตรท่านหนึ่งซึ่งแนะนำให้เธอไปศึกษาและปฏิบัติธรรม ณ วัดพระธรรมกาย ๒๐ C กุมภาพันธ์ ๒๕๓๑ Kalyanamitra.org
