A FOREIGNER'S IMPRESSION OF BUDDHISM IN THAILAND AN IMPRESSIVE TEMPLE Wat Phra Dhammakaya-the people and the place have a deep impression in the Hysons's memory, Mrs. Hyson said, "I haven't been to any temple that looks as clean as Wat Phra Dhammakaya. It's very clean which is to us very important. We came from a different place, where we have lived all our lives and which is clean and well-organized, when we came to Bangkok, it looked so dirty and disorganized. When we went to Wat Phra Dhammakaya, we felt so different and thought that it's the most appropriate place that we would like to come again." "It's like another civilization there because people ..er..are all so well-organized...they know exactly what to do...what not to do...and the place is well-kept ...so it made us feel good to go there. As a matter of fact, we go to the temple to pray to Buddha. But some places are so dirty, and we fear to touch anything...we don't want to get the germs...it's not because we don't respect the place...but it's just the filthiness of the people who don't respect cleanliness. It makes us feel like not going there...especially when we have to bow down to pray to the lord Buddha or monks. Some places are so dirty that we are afraid to bow down because we might pick up some germs and get sick. So we like to go to Wat Phra Dhammakaya. It's nice and clean...and beautiful." Lisa added that, "At Wat Phra Dhammakaya, every thing is nice and pleasant. It's the place we would go to meditate. Everyone is very friendly, very helpful. Lots of people, even if they can't communicate, try to come up to ask what we need, what we want them to do for us. They are very kind and considerate! ความประทับใจ วัดพระธรรมกาย ครอบครัวโฮสันมีความประทับใจวัดพระธรรมกายเป็นอย่าง ยิ่ง ทั้งบุคคลและสถานที่ คุณแนน กล่าวว่า... “ดิฉันไม่เคยเห็นวัดไหนสะอาดเหมือนวัดพระธรรมกาย ความสะอาดเป็นสิ่งสำคัญมาก เวลาอยู่อเมริกา บ้านเมืองของ เขาสะอาดสะอ้านมีระเบียบเรียบร้อย พอกลับมาถึงกรุงเทพฯ รู้ สีกว่าถนนหนทางมันสกปรกเลอะเทอะ ระบบระเบียบอะไรก็ไม่ค่อย จะมี จนกระทั่งได้ไปวัดพระธรรมกายจึงเห็นว่า เอ๊ะ! ที่นั่นเป็น สถานที่ที่เราน่าจะได้เข้าไปสัมผัสบ่อย ๆ เป็นเสมือนดินแดน อารยธรรมแห่งหนึ่งที่แตกต่างออกไปจากที่อื่น เพราะว่าทุก ๆ คนที่นั่นทำงานอย่างมีระเบียบ ทุกคนรู้ว่าตัวเองควรทำอะไร ไม่ควรทำอะไร สถานที่ก็สะอาดสะอ้าน ได้มาเห็นแล้วก็สบายใจ... จริงอยู่เราไปวัดเพื่อไปไหว้พระ แต่ถ้าวัดสกปรก เราก็ไม่กล้า จะแตะต้องอะไร ๆ เพราะกลัวจะติดเชื้อโรค.... มันเป็นความรู้สึก นะคะ. ช่วยไม่ได้จริง ๆ .....ไม่ใช่ว่าเราไม่เคารพสถานที่หรอกนะคะ แต่เรากลัวความสกปรกที่เกิดจากคนที่ไม่เคารพสถานที่น่ะ สิ่งนี้ ทำให้เราไม่อยากไปวัดที่ไม่สะอาด โดยเฉพาะอย่างยิ่งเวลาเราจะ ก้มกราบพระที่พื้นสกปรก เราก็กลัวจะติดโรค กลับไปไม่สบาย เพราะฉะนั้นดิฉันจึงชอบวัดพระธรรมกายมาก ทั้งสะอาด ทั้งสวย ทั้งสงบ... สำหรับเรื่องนี้ลิสาให้ความเห็นว่า.... “เมื่อไปถึงวัดพระธรรมกาย รู้สึกว่าทุกสิ่งทุกอย่างดูดีไปหมด สดชื่น สดใส สบายตา สบายใจ หนูรู้สึกว่าเป็นสถานที่ที่เราควร จะไปปฏิบัติธรรม เจ้าหน้าที่แต่ละคนแสดงความเป็นมิตรเป็นอย่างดี แสดงน้ำใจโอบอ้อมอารีคอยช่วยเหลืออยู่เสมอ แม้จะมีปัญหาใน ด้านภาษา แต่ทุกคนก็พยายามจะช่วยเหลือคอยถามไถ่ว่าต้องการ อะไร ต้องการทําอะไร ต้องการให้ช่วยอะไร คือมีความเห็นอกเห็น ใจดีเหลือเกิน” ๒๖ Kalyanamitra.org กุมภาพันธ์ ๒๕๓
