What discourse is regarded as the funda- mental teaching of Buddhism? (คำสอนในพระไตรปิฎกนั้นมีอยู่มากมาย คำสอนเรื่องใด ครับ ที่ถือว่าเป็นหลักสำคัญในพระพุทธศาสนา) discourse (n) = ปาฐกถาธรรม Scripture (n) = คัมภีร์ Buddhist scriptures = พระไตรปิฎก B: When Lord Buddha preached, to my knowledge, He meticulously explained the same concept in different ways and in different words to different people according to their capacity to understand and follow him. (เท่าที่ทราบ เมื่อพระสัมมาสัมพุทธเจ้าตรัสเทศนานั้น แม้ธรรมเรื่องเดียวกัน พระองค์ก็ทรงสอนบุคคลต่างๆ ด้วยวิธีการที่แตกต่างกัน ด้วยถ้อยคำที่แตกต่างกัน โดย ให้เหมาะสมกับความรู้ความสามารถของผู้ฟัง) meticulously (adv.) อย่างพิถีพิถัน capacity(n) = ความสามารถ capacity to understand = ความรู้ความสามารถ = Thus, it isn't strange that there were so many discourses given by Lord Buddha throughout forty- five years of His Buddhist propagation. (ดังนั้นจึงไม่ใช่เรื่องแปลกที่มีพระธรรมคำสั่งสอนมากมาย ปรากฏขึ้นในช่วงเวลาถึง ๔๕ ปี แห่งการประกาศพระ ศาสนาของพระพุทธองค์) propagation (n) = การเผยแผ่ As a matter of fact, His first sermon known in Pali as "the Dhammacakkappavattana Sutta" is the main discourse of Buddhism. (อันที่จริง ปฐมเทศนา ซึ่งมีชื่อในภาษาบาลีว่า ธัมมจัก กัปปวัตตนสูตร นั้นคือคำสอนแม่บทในพระพุทธศาสนา) main (adj.) = สำคัญ main discourse = ค่าสอนแม่บท All of His successive discourses are the modifica- tions to the first sermon. พระธรรมเทศนาทั้งหมด ในภายหลังต่อมาล้วนเป็นบท ขยายความปฐมเทศนาทั้งสิ้น) successive (adj.) = ตามมา modification (n) = การขยายความ A: Could you please go into details about the first sermon? (คุณช่วยกรุณาอธิบายปฐมเทศนาให้ละเอียดหน่อยได้ไหมครับ) B : Lord Buddha preached this sermon to his first five disciples who were ascetics. The main concept of this sermon includes: (พระสัมมาสัมพุทธเจ้าทรงแสดงปฐมเทศนานี้แก่พระปัญจ วัคคีย์ มีประเด็นสำคัญ ดังนี้) disciple (n) = ศิษย์, สาวก ascetic (n) = นักบวช 1. Three ways of practice, namely, Self-Indulgence, Self—Mortification and the Middle Way, the first two ways are too extreme, the right way that led Him to attain Enlightenment was the Middie Way. (วิธีปฏิบัติทั้งสามวิธีคือ กามสุขัลลิกานุโยค อัตตกิลมถานุโยค และมัชฌิมาปฏิปทา สองวิธีแรก เป็นวิธีสุดโต่งเกินไป วิธีที่ ถูกต้องซึ่งนำพระพุทธองค์ให้บรรลุการตรัสรู้ธรรมก็คือมัชฌิมา ปฏิปทา) indulgence (n) = ตามใจตัว mortification (n) = หมดความรู้สึก extreme (a) = ผิดธรรมดา, รุนแรง 2. The Four Noble Truths, namely, the truth of suffering, the truth of the cause of suffering, the truth of the end of suffering and the truth of the path leading to the end of suffering, (อริยสัจ ๔ คือ ทุกข์ สมุทัย นิโรธ และมรรค) 3. Lord Buddha's declaration which showed that He had completely comprehended the state of suffering, (คำปฏิญาณของพระสัมมาสัมพุทธเจ้า ซึ่งแสดงว่าพระพุทธ องค์ทรงหยั่งรู้สภาวะทุกข์) that He had completely eradicated the cause of suffering within Himself, (แสดงว่าพระพุทธองค์ทรงกำจัดเหตุแห่งทุกข์ในพระองค์เอง หมดสิ้นแล้ว) that He had already attained the state of freedom from suffering, (แสดงว่าพระพุทธองค์ทรงบรรลุสภาวะแห่งความพ้นทุกข์แล้ว) and that He had already completed the practice leading to the end of suffering, (และแสดงว่าพระพุทธองค์ทรงปฏิบัติเพื่อความพ้นทุกข์เสร็จ แล้ว) Due to the completion of performing the four functions concerning the Four Noble Truths, Lord Buddha was กัลยาณมิตร ๑๓๐ ธันวาคม ๒๕๓๙
