who don't inspire faith, sitting close by those who
are inspiring of faith.

Chandra was from the provinces and coming
into Bangkok she knew no-one. It wasn't by
any means easy to be accepted at Wat Paknam.
For a stranger to join the temple community or
even the congregation, normally required be-
ing introduced to the temple by someone senior
already held in esteem by the temple. Chandra
had no direct contacts. At first she stayed at the
house of some relatives. Meanwhile she sought
employ in a family who practised meditation at
Wat Paknam. She waited for an opportunity to
present itself.
Eventually the person she was looking for came
in the guise of Khun Nai Liap Sikanhanan who
was a lady of aristocratic stock who lived in Saphan
