Great Abbot to the full. The subtlety of her meditation gradually increased - more than she had ever achieved in the past. Inside her mind was brighter than a skyful of midday suns condensed into one. As time passed by the Great Abbot started to challenge her with questions unfathomable by conceptual thought. The first question she received from him concerned checking the language of animals. One day when the Great Abbot was returning from the monastic refectory, he spotted two pigeons and challenged Chandra to find out the conversation that had taken place between them. He said that the two pigeons had been perched together on the temple roof. One pigeon had turned its head to face away from the other and then the two pigeons had flown off together in the same direction. Without knowing any more than this, Chandra went away to meditate upon the Dhammakāya. She brought her mind deeper and deeper to a standstill at the centre, until when her mind was perfectly at a standstill, she was able to understand the pigeons and returned to the Great Abbot with the answer. The pair of pigeons had been husband and wife - the male had been asking the female about the route to their destination so that they would not get lost on the way. The female had turned her head away to recollect the route, before they both set off together in the agreed direction. The Great Abbot said only "Err! That's how it ought to be" in response to Chandra's answer. From there he started to ask Chandra gradually more and more challenging questions. Next morning he asked, "(Daughter) Chandra! This
