6 The Meditation Workshop "There are certain monks and Brahmins in this world who strive until they have uprooted the defilements. With perseverance in their striving, avoiding recklessness, they apply their skillfulness of mind and can attain psychical powers. When their mind is concentrated they can attain psychical powers, such as: one person can become many or many can become one, can appear or disappear at will, walking through walls as if walking through empty space, popping up from the ground or sinking into it, diving up out of the water or walking on it as if walking on solid earth, floating in the air like a bird, able to touch the sun or the moon with their own hands, able to reach the Brahma world with their physical body." Sampasadiya Sutta The meditation workshop or "rong-ngahn-tam-vijja" was a large building, open inside except for a long thin partition which ran down the length of the building. At that time there were about thirty monks meditating together on one side and about thirty nuns and unordained laywomen on the other. Those meditating on one side of the partition were unable to see those on the other. The partition was designed to prevent monks and nuns being a visual distraction to one another. Monks and
