The Great Abbot passed away on the third of Febru- ary 1959 at the age of seventy-three. Despite the maj- esty of a lifetime's ministry, when he passed away it was only pitiful few of his disciples, principally the nuns who had stayed at his side throughout his ministry, who continued with his mission in its original spirit. Other followers tried to recapture the meditation experience they had attained with the Great Abbot by leaving the temple and retreating to the forests to meditate. After the Great Abbot's passing, Khun Yay re- mained at Wat Paknam still living in the same small kuti with Khun Yay Thongsuk. It never escaped Khun Yay's mind that Khun Yay Thongsuk was be- hind all the success in her own Dhamma career. This led Khun Yay Chandra to respect Khun Yay Thong- suk and hold her in the highest esteem. Throughout Khun Yay Chandra's stay at Wat Paknam, they had stayed together — sometimes like elder and younger sisters, sometimes like teacher and pupil. When the Great Abbot had been alive, Khun Yay Thongsuk had been entrusted by the Great Abbot with the task of spreading Dhamma far and wide to all the provinces of Thailand. Often Khun Yay Thongsuk would have to travel far away from the temple to give sermons. She would be away from the meditation workshop for days at a time.
