That day Khun Yay was the last in the room to draw her lot – but strangely the winning lot evaded the hands of everyone else in the room. Once Khun Yay had picked the lot, she had someone else unroll it and read it out (because she couldn’t read it for herself). She had won the fan through her psychic ability. Everybody was amused saying, “Her surname is ‘khonnokhoong’ (meaning peacock feather) and she has been the one to win the peacock-feather fan!” The fan, however, was to stay with her only a few hours, because Khun Yay Thongsuk came asking after it. Khun Yay Thongsuk wanted to give the fan as a meritorious gift. Khun Yay wanted the merit more than the fan so gladly gave it to her old teacher.
