Bhasicharoen. It took almost an hour-and-a-half to reach the destination. He would leave the university in the morning, go to meditate with Khun Yay and return to the university again in the evening. Usually he would arrive in the early afternoon and return late in the day.
This student was the first to refer to Teacher Chandra as 'Khun Yay', later on, others changed to call her that too. On their first meeting, Khun Yay didn't waste much time with pleasantries but had her student sit for meditation, teaching him the method.
She told him, "Make sure you sit for meditation frequently." He took the meditation seriously and did as he had been told. He was half-surprised at himself for taking Khun Yay's advice so seriously. He didn’t have the doubts in his mind which he always had to struggle with when visiting other schools of meditation. He didn’t feel Khun Yay had to justify the things she asked him to do. He felt happy just to comply.
It was New Year's Eve. There were many parties and festivities going on for students at Kasetsart University. As he had no secrets from Khun Yay, even behind her back, he went to ask her permission first before going to the party. Khun Yay didn’t stop him, she just said, "You go to the party every year and this year you can go too – I won’t stop you – but don’t go into the party before midnight." Accordingly, he conversed with Khun Yay on Dhamma subjects until about 8 p.m. He arrived on campus and had something to eat just outside until 10 p.m..
