Cariyāpitaka 36 The small kuti which had been completed at the temple in 1975 for Khun Yay was in the strategic position of gatehouse, at the entrance of the monks’ residential area. It was also the closest to the kitchen. A bird’s eye view of the eighty-acre site reveals that Khun Yay’s kuti was also situated right in the geometric centre of the temple’s original property. Surrounded by various types of aromatic plants, the area had its own natural fragrance. Following a simple square design, the kuti was made of concrete and painted white. Until the 1990’s Khun Yay used this kuti exclusively. Later, she only stayed overnight there but spent the day at the small office across the road. In Khun Yay’s small kuti, her spartan bed was next to the wall. Khun Yay’s bed was a stainless steel frame topped by a thick piece of wood panel.
