free of mental defilements, endowed with cleanliness,
who are cleansed of all demerit — such people are recog-
nized by the wise as being truly clean.

There was a student of economics at Suan Kularb
School — one of the best secondary schools in
Bangkok — who had an insatiable appetite to
know about Buddhism and all things supernatu-
ral. The unanswered questions of 'Why we were
born' and 'What our purpose is in life' lingered
on unanswered in his mind. He didn’t know
who to ask. Charming and talented in social af-
fairs. He was popular amongst friends and he
was a student found personable by all. However,
none of them could overlook this young man’s
dedication to Buddhism and meditation. His
