the Precepts Upāsika Thongsuk told Chandra to dedicate merit, making the wish that it reach her father. Chandra made the resolution: "May the grace of the merit from having staked my life in meditation until attaining Dhammakāya be dedicated to assist my father break free of his torment." The Dhammakāya instructed Chandra's father also to recall all the merit which he had made during his life. Father pictured the merit he had made. This merit, together with the Grace of the Dhammakāya, made his body light and drift upwards. As it happened, he had made quite a lot of merit in his life. His body started to change in appearance from emaciated to radiant. His body became swathed in angelic raiment. He started to drift upwards away from the hell realms, higher and higher, following Chandra's Dhammakāya. He drifted higher, entering the heaven realm until reaching Tāvatimsa — the `Heaven of the Thirty-Three. He had his own heavenly mansion there, but his was neither bright nor beautiful like that of the other inhabitants. The Dhammakāya told him that his heavenly mansion was not bright because when he was alive, he had done a lot of evil things, as well as virtuous ones. He had drunk heavily and the merit of supporting his family had been sullied by killing animals to feed the hungry mouths of his children. The Dhammakāya taught him to meditate using the mantra 'Sammā-Arahām' and his body began to look brighter than when he was in hell, developing a heavenly form appropriate to the Tāvatimsa heaven and he had a retinue of other angels which was of reasonable size.
