Khun Yay used to use the motto, “We may disagree, but we must never be opposed” (i.e. everyone can voice their opinion, can discuss their views, but this must never lead to deadlock). This meant that however many people there were, they would be unified in their quest to attain the Triple Jewel, the Dhammakāya inside. Khun Phadet, was thus put in charge of looking after the eighty acre plot and to oversee all the construction work to take place on the land too. Once Khun Phadet saw Khun Yay making a very extended resolution and asked what was so important for her to make a wish at such length. Khun Yay replied that she was making the wish that she might never be responsible for taking life, in any future lifetime, not even so much as the life of a humble ant or termite — and equally the wish that no living being may ever be responsible for killing her — even if she should be alone faced with an entire army of aggressors in the same way that the Buddha had been confronted with Mara’s army on the night of his enlightenment. Khun Phadet had the impression that Khun Yay wanted to teach him a personal lesson, because at that time the temple was being threatened by those who wanted to burn down the thatch-roofed lecture hall used at the time. Deep in Phadet’s mind, there was the temptation to finish off those troublemakers once and for all — but faced with the earnestness of Khun Yay’s resolve warning him of the danger of even a misplaced intention, it took all the wind out of the sails of his aggression.
