Abbot had some sort of magic power and before long, whenever air-raid sirens were sounded, the people of Bhasicharoen would hasten to the temple precincts rather than shelter in air-raid bunkers. The Great Abbot would have the meditators check when the squadrons of bombers would arrive on their bomb-runs against Bangkok. He’d ask, “What time will they drop their bombs today?” Knowing the time, when he heard the distant explosions of bombs falling, he’d remain unmoved and say, “Go and intercept those bombs in case they harm somebody. Have them fall in the ocean or in uninhabited areas instead.” The Great Abbot employed his adepts to help the national effort and mankind as a whole, without taking sides. He meditated to bring an end to the conflict — to restore peace. He had his meditators make their minds subtle and use the power of the Dhammakāya to overcome the problems. He used the powers of meditation to cause the bomb-aimers to see their strategic targets as forests or open sea so that they wouldn’t drop their bombs there. They made the forests and sea appear like cities to the bomb-aimers so that they emptied their bomb bays without harming anyone. Indeed, in 1941, many of the Bangkok newspapers gave front-page coverage to the manifestation of miracles at Wat Paknam. One particular incident which riveted press such as Vipassana Banteungsarn was an air-raid on Bangkok — the target of which was the Praputha-yodfa-chulalok Bridge.
