Yay Chandra and Khun Yay Thongsuk during the War. The magazine even had pictures of the two nuns and others such as 'Kru Yannee'. The article told how they had averted the bombs dropped on Bangkok. The student figured that if Khun Yay were able to avert falling bombs, answering his questions should be a piece of cake. That was his prime mover in seeking out Khun Yay. However, strangely enough, even though the house he was living in at the time was in Thonburi near to Wat Paknam he never seemed to visit. It was a full three years later when the student was nineteen, that he would have the opportunity to go to Wat Paknam again. On arrival, he still didn't know where to look for Khun Yay. As he was looking around the temple, he caught a glimpse of a wiry old nun who was standing in front of the building where Khun Yay Thongsuk had been commemorated. She had her back to him. The student didn’t know her and she didn’t know him. He had no way of telling whether it was the same person as he had seen in the magazine or not. Thus, the first day, although he had unwittingly come within speaking distance of Khun Yay, he had to go home disappointed. Trying to find her seemed to lead in circles. He didn’t go to Wat Paknam again for a long time. He engrossed himself with his studies. His questions remained unanswered. He started university, studying economics at Katetsart University, Bangkok. In October 1963, during the vacation, he decided to go looking for Khun Yay at Wat Paknam again. Again, he asked after a nun called ‘Mother Chandra’, but no-one had heard of anyone by that name.
