The wise man remains unmoved by gossip or flattery. Dh.23 It was about 1938 when eventually she made an appointment with Upāsika Thongsuk to spend a month of meditation at Wat Paknam. She was willingly granted a month’s leave by Khun Nai Liap. Her mistress emphasized, "But after a month, you will be coming back won’t you?" in response to which Chandra kept her silence. Khun Nai Liap assumed for herself that Chandra would surely be back at work one month from then. That night as Chandra slept, she dreamt that she was standing on the bank of a wide river. A ferry carried her across to the far side where she saw a huge Bodhi tree covered in luxuriant green leaves giving her refreshing shade from the heat of the day. Once ashore she sat beneath the Bodhi tree with the utmost of happiness . . . and it was with this feeling that she awoke.
