companians at the temple and the facilities. It was
hard enough to further her studies in the meditation
workshop without having to sort out problems in
her personal life. However, no matter how badly she
might be treated by her fellows at the temple, she took
no interest, because the only thing she was interested
in was meditating well enough to vanquish misión.¹
Nevertheless, the creature comforts provided to her
by the temple were the most dilapidated and were only
given to her because they had been abandoned by
the others - whether it be her bed, chairs or mosquito net.
At that time she didn't have anyone who she could
turn to and no influence - so, she didn't let such
mundane trivialities bog her down.
Normally the idea of a mosquito net is to protect
against bites but the one she was given had holes in
it so large that it offered no protection. Nonetheless,
she received it with gratitude, thinking no more than
to use it to ward off biting insects. She washed it clean
and patched the holes herself.
The legs of the bed she was allocated were broken.
The mattress stank and was infested with bedbugs.
No thought of resentment crossed her mind, however,
because she considered that the bed was merely to
allow her sufficient rest to put her efforts into the
practice of meditation. It was of no importance in
itself. She was no carpenter, but repaired the bed
as best she could, so that it was at least usable. She
polished it so clean that it looked as good as new.
At night when she was asleep on the mattress, the
bedbugs emerged one by one and bit her, shocking
