Khun Yay Chandra to bring her up to date with progress in the research whenever she returned. Being kept in touch by Khun Yay Chandra in this way allowed Khun Yay Thongsuk to excel both in research and in propagation of the Dhamma. The knowledge of Dhamma kāya thus began to take a foothold in the provinces. When Khun Yay Thong-suk was still in good health, she would travel all over Thailand teaching meditation for people of all walks of life. Consequently, she had students all over the country. She would return exhausted from her trips. Her time at the temple was a time when she could recover from her voyaging and Khun Yay Chandra was able to wait on her, to help make her time back at the temple a time to cherish. In return for being brought up to date on the meditation research, Khun Yay Thongsuk would tell of her adventures in the provinces. In 1960, not long after the death of the Great Abbot, Khun Yay Thongsuk herself was struck down by cervical cancer. When her symptoms were at their worst, Khun Yay Thongsuk would be admitted to Sirirat Hospital. When the symptoms were less aggravated, she would be allowed to convalesce at her kuti at Wat Paknam. Eventually, when the symptoms became so bad that the hospital gave her no further hope, she was left with no alternative but to remain at the kuti. The terminal symptoms of cancer were horrifying, stinking blood and lymph fluid poured from her wound. The stench was so strong that the formerly numerous volunteers looking after her dwindled until she was abandoned by all except for Khun Yay Chandra. Khun Yay Chandra saw this as being
