King Asoka was a pivotal figure in Buddhism, inviting 60,000 monks for daily alms and yearning to pay respect to a fully-enlightened Buddha. He invited the Naga King to appear as the Buddha for homage, constructed 84,000 stupas for the relics, and built the Asokārāma temple for ceremonial homage. Asoka's dedication to Buddhism was evident as he ordained his son Mahindra and daughter Saṅghamitä, sponsoring the Third Council and spreading Buddhism to Sri Lanka through Mahindra Thera. He acted as an exemplary layman, taking refuge in the Triple Gem and inspiring others to do the same. His actions stemmed from a mindset of Right Intention, essential in the teachings of Buddhism.
