The Buddha, in the Dhammackakapavattana Sutta, introduced the Thirty-Seven Factors of Enlightenment, laying down the framework of the Four Noble Truths and the Cycle of Dependent Origination. Dhammacakas are categorized into two types: Pativedhānānadhammacakka, which focuses on personal attainment and the overcoming of craving, and Desanānānadhammacakka, which emphasizes teaching these insights for the benefit of others, demonstrated through Añña-Koņdāña's enlightenment. The teachings guide disciples in their journey toward liberation from craving and realizing the Fruits of Sainthood. For more information, visit dmc.tv.

The Enlightenment of the Buddha’s First Disciple In preaching the Dhammackakapavattana Sutta, the Buddha revealed the Thirty-Seven Factors of Enlightenment [bodhipakkhiyadhamma], the Cycle of Dependent Origination and the Four Noble Truths as the hub, the spokes and the rim of the Dhammacakka respectively. Dhammacakas can be divided into two types: 1. Pativedhānānadhammacakka: The Personal Attainment of knowledge of the Four Noble Truths, the Three Cycles of Examination¹ [parivaggiæ]; and the Twelve Stages of the Cycle of Examination overcoming by transcending [samuccedapāhana] the enemy we call craving, giving rise to the Fruits of Sainthood [ariyaphala]. 2. Desanānānadhammacakka: Out of compassion, teaching for the benefit of one’s disciples (Añña-Koņdāña would be the first) the way to overcome craving by attainment of knowledge of the Four Noble Truths, the Three Cycles of examination and the Twelve Stages of the Cycle of Examination. ¹. i.e Saccaṇāpaņa, Kiccaṇāpaņa, Kataṇaņa (see overleaf) 175
