Journey to Joy 256 When my teaching monk finished his preparatory instructions, we sat in total silence. And as I sat, eyes closed, and still, although we were in a quiet and comfortable room, far from the maddening pace of the city, incredibly, I could still hear the noise from the bustling traffic and incessant activity of Bangkok churning about in my mind! Thoughts began to arise at what seemed to be an uncontrollable pace! Gradually, the incessant torrent of chaotic thoughts decreased until they subsided to just five or six arising every few minutes, and I was able to experience a few moments of true stillness and serene peace. It was a revelation! From that fateful day to this, my first foray into the daily practice of the Dhammakaya method of meditation has become an invaluable part of
