Peace my life. And the adage of that young physician that "Whatever works is good", took on a ... special meaning; indeed, "meditation works"! The first profound change in my life, that I can attribute directly to my daily practice of meditation, is the miraculous ability to gradually learn how to, "Let go and begin to live in the present". To let go of the past and learn to live in the moment was something I thought to be utterly impossible, and for good reason! For decades, I carried within me a deep sense of guilt. A burden that I believed nothing or nobody could lift. During the height of the Vietnam War, during the Tet Offensive, a very close friend of mine insisted on taking my place on a dangerous patrol. I had been exhausted from a 23-day mission trekking through dense jungle. 257
